It all began way back in 1959,when a young German couple Helga /Werner Knorr in obedience to the Lord’s call on their lives and wanting to practically obey God’s command in Matt.28:19 “therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” Set out to Africa leaving his warm comfortable home in Europe. With airplanes still new to West Africa countries at that time, journey was by a boat.
Landing in Calabar moved inland to Uyo where they settled to begin their missionary vocation. No sooner had they began to explore the land that they discovered that the place was already so full of churches. Like Apostle Paul who desired to preach the gospel on virgin land the young missionary shortly after began sensing God urging him to move to neighbouring nation of Cameroon in 1961. This proved to be God’s leading indeed from Calabar through the creeks of Obenekang the young couple arrived Mutengene,Tiko and finally settled in mutengene to begin a mission in Cameroon which has come to be known as the Full Gospel Mission which in Cameroon. Within 10 years, by the grace of God the young missionary has led many both young and old to the Lord and not only that the young churches were almost in all the major towns in the South West Region. From the S.W. region, part of Littoral and the North West Regions. Then in 1974 another young German evangelist and wife the Schneider couple joined the Knorr couple in Cameroon. Rev. Knorr by calling is a pastor, teacher and prophet who ensured the grounding and maturing of the young church. On the other hand Peter Schneider was a young fiery evangelist with an apostolic charisma bull dozed the virgin land of Cameroon with the gospel of Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. By the grace of God these two missionary couples have been without doubt some of the vital instruments the lord has used along the years to make FGM what it is today. Other Germans Missionaries that have served with the above two couples include: the Schaibles, Schevens , van Leavens and the Rhodes. While we can attribute the balanced doctrine and growth of the mission to the Ministry Knorr and Schneider, the creation of the fulltime residential bible school in Bamenda in 1970 is the reason for the multiplied workers the Mission has today. The beginning and growth of the Full Gospel Bible Institute (FGBI) and its present impact in the nation and the work as a whole cannot be recorded without mention of the tremendous part played by the American Assemblies of God through her multiple missionaries like Bailik, Treherne, Smalling Schubert and Hudlow. In all this account of Men the undiluted gospel message preached one key element in the work of the FGM is the dependence on the Holy Spirit. Today FGM is present in all the 10 regions of the nation and also some neighbouring countries of Nigeria, Chad, CAR, and Congo.
